LONDON - Dec. 1, 2015 - PRLog -- Early in the evening of December 8, 1980, New York singer/songwriter Roxanne Fontana composed her song ‘Time Won’t Wait,’ on electric 12-string guitar. The entire song was written in one sitting: the words, the music, even the opening intro notes. Exhausted from the creation, the 21 year-old Fontana fell asleep before 10 pm that evening. Woken by a phone call from a friend in New York City who had just returned home from Studio 54, she was told of the shooting death of John Lennon.

The Beatle fanatic Roxanne went through the week mourning the death, with the rest of New York City and the world. Opening her notebook days later, she discovered that she had written the song just hours before the earth-shattering assassination. The lyrics, when written, were about no one in particular, and Fontana was stunned that the words of someone pining for someone they would never meet, were prophetic.

After two decades as a club performer, recording a few indie singles and albums, Roxanne Fontana retired from music to co-write with her young husband Mat Treiber. A few years later after her move to England, and much to her surprise, she found her music selling from indie music outlets on the internet. Roxanne decided to put up old footage on YouTube, and create home movie 1960’s styled videos to a lot of the songs that were available. A memoir, American Girl, about her life during her struggles to become successful, was met with rave reviews by new fans.

It was during this rise to cult popularity that producer Jack Douglas, as well as other music business professionals, discovered her. When she received an email from Douglas expressing interest in working with her, she immediately recalled her song ‘Time Won’t Wait.’ John Lennon had chosen Jack Douglas to produce the massive comeback album, ‘Double Fantasy,’ and was working with Douglas the night of December 8, 1980.

In the Spring of 2015, Roxanne Fontana set into motion the recording of ‘Time Won’t Wait’ with Jack Douglas producing. The John Lennon NYC Statue Project, dedicated to erecting a statue for John Lennon and his vision of world peace, came on board as the Executive Producers. Douglas was unaware of the song, or its history when he discovered Roxanne. Listening to the final playback, after the last notes rung out, Jack declared, “It’s a hit!”

‘Time Won’t Wait’ is available for download on December 8, 2015, the 35th Anniversary of both the death of John Lennon, and the conception of the song.
