Second Chance Checking Accounts In California

July 9, 2013 - PRLog -- Consumers living in California that had a past checking account negatively reported to the Chexsystems and are currently finding it difficult to open a new checking account can learn what banks and credit unions offer second chance checking accounts to Chexsystems victims.

The free consumer organization called "Bad Credit MD" has formed a list of California credit unions and nationwide banks that provide people with a second chance checking account program to individuals with negative marks reported on their Chexsystems report. Consumers can access this list free of charge at http://www.badcreditmd.com/second-chance-checking-account/.

The spokesperson for "Bad Credit MD" says that most of these fresh start checking programs that are being offered come with check writing privilages and a Visa or MasterCard debit card.

Chexsystems provides information to financial institutions such as federal and state banks, credit unions, and savings and loan companies about consumer checking accounts and their banking history. The financial institution may refuse a consumer a checking or savings account based on the information provided by Chexsystems. A financial institution may report a consumer to Chexsystems when they decide to close a consumer's account if the banking customer consistently has overdrafts or insufficient funds.

If a consumer is reported by a lending or banking institution, the report is active in the Chexsystems for five years. If the information is incorrect, the consumer must request that the bank (or other institution) in question remove the report. If the financial institution refuses to cooperate, consumers living in California can contact the California Department of Corporations below which has jurisdiction over Chexsystems.
