By: National Multicultural Western Heritage Museum This year's honorees include early professional rodeo trailblazer Lawrence Homer Coffee, 70's film icon Pam Grier, African-American ranch owner Mollie Taylor Stevenson, Jr., nationally recognized artist Burl Washington, rodeo world champion Fred Whitfield and daytime drama superstar Walt Willey. Posthumous inductees include Colonel Allen Allensworth, James Butler “Wild Bill” Hickok, Woodrow Wilson Woolwine “Woody” Strode and Floyd “Buck” Wyatt. The awards ceremony and banquet kicks off an exciting weekend of events celebrating the National Day of the American Cowboy. “ Additional weekend highlights include a Benefit Concert featuring vocalist Avery Sunshine, George Huff, Aquile, and comedian Kenn Coxx; free Western Heritage Symposium; a Living History presentation - “An Evening with Wild Bill Hickok” The primary objective of the National Multicultural Western Heritage Museum is to offer the visitor a true and complete historical perspective of the people and activities that built the unique culture of the American West. The work of artists who documented the people and events of the time through journals, photographs and other historical items are part of the museum's new collection.
