By: AIGA Hampton Roads The Gala event will be held Friday, August 23 at the Virginia Aquarium during the week of the Coastal Edge ECSC (East Coast Surfing Championships) SHRED is a fundraising competition and art exhibition where local designers, fine artists, surfers, skaters, and students showcase their artwork for a skate deck and/or surfboard. The event was born in an effort to expand the local design community and create a thriving epicenter to communicate and collaborate. Designers are given only one restriction. Designs must be contained within a skateboard deck or surfboard template. Entries cost $75 for the first and $10 per additional. There is not limit to the number of entries. Entries will be posted on Facebook for public voting. A group of National AIGA Members will also judge entries. Prizes will be awarded based on a combination of judging and social media votes. A book compiling imagery of the entries is planned for publication after the event. For more information please visit shred.aiga.org (http://www.shred.aiga.org). Tickets to the Gala event for AIGA Members is $45 in advance and $60 in advance for non-members. A Limited Edition SHRED Book is include with each ticket and will be given out at check-in.
