Follow on Google News | Conversation About Adding A Garage Leads To A New Home (And Two Garages)Wickre & Co. completely rethinks property and builds a home and garages beyond the owner’s wildest dreams.
By: Wickre and Co. Custom Builders “It all started on a quiet December 31st”, said Glenn Wickre, president of Wickre & Co. “I got a call to discuss adding a large garage and before I knew it we were talking about raising the current home and starting from scratch.” Starting at the design phase, Wickre was very sensitive to the scale of the proposed structures. The topography and depth of the lot provided an opportunity to create a home where the outside areas and decks are a critical part of the living space. “Our clients wanted to create a space that was convenient, comfortable and inviting for their grown children and large extended family”, said Glenn Wickre. The foundation pad was sculpted to allow the house to be built closer to the ground so decks could spill into the yard without rails. While the house sits on a conventional foundation with a 4’ crawl space, the North garage was positioned and built so there are no steps leading into the house. A wrap around porch on three sides creates a sitting area facing West, a gathering area around a masonry fireplace and a large eating area to the South and a comfortable viewing area for the infinity pool from the East. Oversized windows with an open 2-over-1 grill pattern were chosen to allow ample natural light to spill into the house. A heavier roofline soffit and multi-layered cornice trims give substance to the exterior façade. Tumbled brick from Virginia added a reclaimed look to the foundation as well as the herringbone pattern surfaced exterior fireplace. Fifty-year roof shingles and copper roof details add additional substance to the façade. Bringing the warmth outside the home in are Brazilian teak decks that continue into the interior floors. The inviting two-story foyer features a handcrafted staircase featuring Brazilian teak newels with wood and wrought iron pickets. From the foyer you can see the kitchen featuring Australian granite, custom cabinets, five foot galley sink, under counter chiller for drinking water, a Wolf 36-inch professional dual fuel range with pot fill, 30-inch Wolf steam oven, Subzero refrigerator, wine chiller, and ice maker. A Butlers pantry neatly tucked behind the kitchen features a Subzero refrigerator and auto hot water dispenser. The kitchen spills into the living room featuring a NanaWall, extending the living area out onto the back deck. An arched hallway leads to the Master Suite featuring a cozy reading area and custom wardrobe closet. The Master bath includes a bubble tub, satin nickel finishes, steam unit and Kohler master shower with body sprays - 4 square ceiling head and hand held – plus heated ceramic tile floors and towel warmer. A fully furnished, cherry wood Library and Theatre room with 12 ft. projection screen with surround sound and sound barrier complete the first floor. The second floor features it’s own living space with wetbar and entertainment center, four bedrooms complete with their own full bathroom, as well as a FROG – a play area for pool table, foosball, TV area, full bath and wetbar. The entire property was completely landscaped to compliment the home and topography. The massive driveway supporting the two 5-bay garages was finished in 8x8 squares of dyed brushed concrete. The total cost of the project was $2,470,000. About Wickre & Co Custom Homes Wickre and Co. has built custom homes on the Outer Banks and Northeastern North Carolina for over twenty years.
