Connecticut Divorce Attorney Renée C. Bauer Recently Quoted in Two News Stories

The Connecticut Law Tribune article noted that the General Assembly approved a similar bill in 2006 that ended up being vetoed by the state’s governor at the time. The article also included commentary on this issue by Attorney Bauer, who stated that this measure would be different because it simply provides access to the birth certificate rather than “carte blanche access to all sensitive documents” related to the adoption. Also, in its current state, the proposed measure would give birth parents who do not wish to be contacted in the future the ability to opt out, she stated. The lawyer called the proposed legislative change long overdue.

“This is more than a legal issue, it’s a human issue,” Attorney Bauer was quoted as saying. “It is illusory for a biological parent to think they will forever remain anonymous. There is a far greater benefit to making this information available to adoptees—and I have yet to hear of a story where disclosure of this information was detrimental to anyone involved.”
