Hygun Group Attends 61st Old Soldiers Day Parade in Alpharetta, GA

MARIETTA, Ga. - Aug. 2, 2013 - PRLog -- Annually the City of Alpharetta, GA and the American Legion Post 201 host the parade which honors the living memory of all veterans and heroes of all wars of our country. This parade is a wonderful way to show our proud veterans and heroes that we recognize them for their service to our United States. This year’s parade theme is “Leading with Honor - Honor Their Sacrifices”. The theme honors and remembers all of our POWs/MIAs of all wars and conflicts. The 2013 Grand Marshall is Leon “Lee” Ellis, a Retired US Air Force Colonel and a former fighter pilot who endured 5 1/2 years as a Prisoner of War in the infamous “Hanoi Hilton” prison near Hanoi, Vietnam. Today, Colonel Ellis is a Fox News Military Analyst, Executive Coach and Corporate Consultant. He is the author of the book, “Leading with Honor,” also the theme of the 61st Old Soldiers Day Parade.

HISTORY OF THE PARADE

The Old Soldiers Day Parade began years ago as a tribute to veterans of the war between the states, but was discontinued after a few years.Twenty–eight years later, in 1952, a small group of men in Alpharetta re-dedicated Old Soldiers Day Parade in Alpharetta and started having a parade through downtown Alpharetta. Thanks to these few men and their belief in keeping this memorable tradition alive, this parade has become an annual celebration to all veterans of all wars; this year marking 61 years.

Along with the program and parade, this celebration will also feature floats, bands, entertainment, children’s activities, and prizes. Free hot dogs and soft drinks will be available at the American Legion at 201 Wills Road. With so much to celebrate, take this day to recognize the living memory of all veterans of war.
