Construction is Complete on Nadel Architects-Designed Poway Plaza

New design-build project brings two national retailers to the area

SAN DIEGO - Aug. 5, 2013 - PRLog -- Construction is complete on the Nadel Architects-designed Poway Plaza, located at 13345 Poway Rd. in Poway, Calif. The $3.5 million design-build project consists of the revitalization of an existing shopping center by repurposing the old 40,000-square-foot Dixieline Lumber tenant space into two new retail spaces: a 25,000-square-foot space, which will house a Michaels arts and craft store; and a 15,000-square-foot space for a Grocery Outlet. The center will be open to the public in August 2013 with the grand opening of Michael’s and the Grocery Outlet to follow in October.

“We designed this center to appeal to a modern clientele, both in terms of the tenants and the consumers they will serve,” said Jim Connelly, AIA, managing principal of the San Diego office of Nadel Architects.

Nadel designed the center to appeal to a national tenant base and attract a wider range of customers. Nadel is overseeing the site improvements in addition to coordinating the shell space for the center and providing tenant improvements for the new Michaels store. Using the existing structure as a basis for the design, Nadel has removed the old Dixieline canopy and completely renovated the interior space to make room for the new tenants. New pronounced entry canopies, slate-tiled columns and an updated color scheme for the project will promote the center as a valuable upgrade to the surrounding neighborhood.

The design build team includes: Craig Carlson and Jack Naliboff of StepStone Realty Advisors, providing project management and asset management for the ownership; Jim Connelly, AIA, project architect; and Mark Lausier, project manager of Nadel Architects -- working alongside the broker, John D. Jennings, senior director at Cushman & Wakefield; the BYCOR General Contractors’ team of Rich Byer, principal; Terry Holum, estimator and preconstruction services; Valerie Hudson, project engineer; Richard Maxa, project manager; and John Neun, site superintendent.
