Follow on Google News | Hocking Hills visitors to Paddle for the Battle against breast cancerJoin Hocking Hills Adventures in the 7th Annual Paddle for the Battle on Saturday, September 7, where participants will canoe and kayak the scenic Hocking River to raise money for the Logan Cancer Support Group.
By: Weirick Communications, Inc. Paddle for the Battle kicks off at noon with a nine-mile canoe or kayak race. Race winners receive prizes donated by local merchants. Then at 1 p.m., participants who prefer a more leisurely paddle will enjoy a naturalist-guided kayak or canoe trip down the Hocking River. The eight-mile canoe or kayak trip takes approximately three hours, as Hocking Hills Adventures’ naturalists guide participants along the Hocking River, pointing the Natural Rockbridge, the old Hocking Canal, area wetlands and wildlife and other natural features of Hocking Hills' untouched landscape. Participants also receive a goodie bag filled with gifts and discounts from local merchants, attractions and restaurants, including a $5 discount on Trek Theater, featuring Shawnee storytelling theater and live bluegrass music in a gorgeous woodland setting. Trek Theater starts at 7 p.m. on Saturday, and is the ideal way to unwind and experience more Hocking Hills beauty after Paddle for the Battle. Paddle for the Battle was launched in 2006 as a tribute to Connie Barbini, founder of Hocking Hills Adventures and the Hocking Valley Canoe Livery. Barbini ultimately lost her own 10-year-battle with breast cancer, however she and her family were well served by the Logan Cancer Support Group, as are so many other individuals and families in the southeast Ohio community. "We started Paddle for the Battle not only as a tribute to my mom," said Connie Barbini's son and event organizer, Shane Barbini, "But we want to honor everyone who is fighting or has fought cancer and let our visitors help us fight cancer by sustaining the important work of Logan Cancer Support Group."
