Inspiring Young Minds with Science and Art

Local firm uses its love of technology to develop the minds of the next generation of artists and scientists.

ORLANDO, Fla. - Aug. 13, 2013 - PRLog -- AST Exhibits (http://www.astexhibits.com/) has always incorporated viewer interactivity as a way to reinforce learning. Now, the museum exhibit company has taken it to the next level.

“Our role is to help educate and inform children,” said president and founder Scott Metelko. “Our focus is always on inspiring the next generation.”

The firm’s recent project with South Florida Science Center and Aquarium (http://www.astexhibits.com/south-florida-science-center-aquarium/)  required craftsmen to mill down polystyrene to create logs, cypress knees and earthen terrain. Each props was coated in a durable surface material, sanded and painted to blend into the scenery. The pieces were then combined to create a realistic Florida Everglades environment where children can learn about the wildlife that live there.

"It is a really cool process,” Metelko said. “We use state-of-the-art technology throughout our process to create clear, focused exhibits. Material science, engineering, graphic design and chemistry are all part of what we work on every day. If we didn't know what we know about these sciences, we couldn't create these exhibits.”

But it is their love of art that makes AST Exhibits (http://www.astexhibits.com/) unique. “When we build an exhibit, we create an environment just like a composer, set designer or a painter would. We want the audience to feel like they are part of that environment, to engage as many senses as we can so that the experience will be memorable.”

In addition to the Everglades exhibit, AST Exhibits (http://www.astexhibits.com/) also built the Science Showcase, Florida Conservation Station, Whale Bone Exhibit, graphic signage, banners and all of the custom aluminum reader-rail graphics for the Aquariums of the Atlantic exhibit.

“It is satisfying to use our love of science and the arts to teach science. There’s something exciting about combining art and science to educate and inspire.”
