"The Villain Within" - African Village Politics Is the Same As Everywhere Else

The leadership of a traditional Cameroon village is at stake in the novel "The Villain Within."

PETERBOROUGH, N.H. - Aug. 8, 2013 - PRLog -- The leadership of a traditional Cameroon village is at stake in the novel The Villain Within. Family infighting and politics play as big a role here as anywhere else, in this story set in the densely forested equatorial village of Bakossi.

The novel begins during the colonial period and ends in the 1970s. For 40 years, Epi has been sitting on the traditional stool ceded to his family through a conspiracy with a German colonialist. But the Nzi family has never stopped contesting his leadership. The eldest Nzi son is angry because his family favors his younger brother to take over as ruler. Meanwhile, Epi secretly hands over the leadership stool to his son, Bwesoh. But a dog has stolen the village’s precious warfare cap and no leaders can be installed without it.

Epi’s sudden death leaves the village in turmoil. Villagers lean toward Bwesoh as leader, but without the cap, nothing can be done. After all the political wrangling and fighting between the families, who will eventually take power?
