Alexander Jules, a New Brand of Sherry, to Arrive to US this Month

SANTA MONICA, Calif. - Aug. 16, 2013 - PRLog -- Barrel selected, bottled and released in very limited quantities, a new family of sherries from Santa Monica based Alexander Jules will arrive from Spain later this month. Alexander Jules wines are bottlings of sherry from barrels selected by proprietor Alex Russan. Mr. Russan works to identify exceptional soleras in some of the oldest and most well regarded bodegas in the Spanish “Sherry Triangle,” tasting through each barrel of wine within the solera and selecting those with the most complexity, elegance and depth. The barrels used in sherry soleras can be in continuous use for hundreds of years. Because they are never entirely emptied for bottling, each takes on a distinctive personality relative to it's peers in the same solera. The process of barrel selection is meticulous and time consuming work; an example of this is the Alexander Jules Manzanilla 17/71 which is selected and blended from just 17 of a 71 barrel solera and involves tasting each barrel various times.

Overlooked for decades and stereotyped as a cloyingly sweet grandma's drink, sherry wines, particularly the dry styles, are gaining popularity in the wine world, particularly in London, Tokyo, Moscow and New York. "The vast majority of sherries produced are dry and many are exceptionally complex, beautiful wines," stated Mr. Russan. "There is a tremendous range of styles of sherry and they are magnificent food wines. Also, they are some of the best values to be had in the wine world." 

Mr. Russan's wines will be released in California, his home state, later this month. His first releases will include an older Fino, a Manzanilla and an Amontillado. The official debut of Alexander Jules sherries will be in New York City at Sherryfest on October 5-8, and October 9-10 at the Toronto Sherryfest.
