Follow on Google News | Hope, Sullivan, Reynolds and Rosemarie Kick Off New Page on Songsandmemories.comFor the past year, the Songsandmemories website has been featuring a number of important singing legends with brief bios and links to their music and careers. A site fan asked about where non-singing legends were covered. And so a new page was born.
By: www.songsandmemories.com The new page kicks off with Bob Hope, Ed Sullivan, Rosemarie and Debbie Reynolds, featuring brief biographies Bob Hope was a British-born American entertainer and comic actor known for his rapid-fire delivery of jokes and one-liners, as well as his success in virtually all entertainment media and his decades of overseas tours to entertain American troops. He received numerous awards and honors for his work as an entertainer and humanitarian. "The Toast of the Town" was the original name of the show , but it could also easily describe Ed Sullivan himself, who was the standard for the host of a television variety show and often called "Mr. Television" (although that title belongs more aptly to Milton Berle, who will be another legend to be featured on the pages.) Mr. Sullivan introduced American TV viewers to such now important figures as The Beatles and Elvis Presley. Rosemarie, who turned 90 in August of 2013, is a legend of show business, having begun her career as Baby Rosemarie in the late 20's. She conquered all realms of entertainment from Broadway to Hollywood and beyond. Her credits place her with all kinds of American icons, from Milton Berle, to Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore, to Doris Day, Candice Bergen and "Hollywood Squares". Today, Miss Rosemarie is an advocate of the Doris Day Animal Foundation and asks that fans donate to the organization in her name. Debbie Reynolds practically grew up on the Silver Screen. Even today's movie affecionados know her as "Tammy" (from oft repeated showings on television of the films from the 50's featuring her in that role, which was also a hit song for the star.) Critics often say her biggest claim to fame is her co-starring role with Gene Kelley and Donald O'Connor in the essential American musical, "Singing in the Rain". Along the way, she had major successes on Broadway ("IRENE"), on TV variety shows and on the night club circuit, particularly in Vegas. Number four is just a start for a page that the website hopes will be popular with its viewers. Suggestions for future celebrities to appear is greatly appreciated. End
