MONTEREY, Calif. - Sept. 6, 2013 - PRLog -- SALINAS, CALIF. – The Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County (BGCMC) is celebrating the Salinas Clubhouse’s 10th Anniversary with a community breakfast on September 19, 2013 from 7:30 -8:45 am at the Salinas BGCMC located at 85 Maryal Drive.  The Master of Ceremonies for the event will be BGCMC Board Member Butch Lindley.  Salinas Police Chief Kelly McMillin will speak about the positive impact the BGCMC has made on the community.

Special honors will be presented to The Harden Foundation and Joe C. Grainger, Executive Director of the Harden Foundation.  The Harden Foundation gave the BGCMC the seed money of $3.25 million to start the Salinas Clubhouse.  Through additional community support a total of $12.1 million was raised that provided the cost of the building in addition to 5 years of operating revenue.

“The Harden Foundation made an amazing contribution to kick-start the campaign to build the new Salinas Clubhouse and the Monterey Peninsula community was integral in helping to bring the opening to fruition,” explains CEO, Donna Ferraro.

The Salinas Clubhouse opened its doors on September 29, 2003.  Since opening, more than 11,800 local children have been provided a safe place to be after school and during school breaks.  Today the Salinas Clubhouse has 1,259 active members and serves 350-400 kids per day.  The Clubhouse has impacted the lives of thousands of kids and families and has provided a critical need in our community, especially among low-income youth who represent over 85% of the Club Members.

“The Salinas Clubhouse was built on the shoulders of the community.  The breakfast is a time to honor so many and thank them for the continued support that has allowed the Clubhouse to remain a safe haven for our local kids,” says Ferraro.   For the past 10 years, the community’s vision and investment has made safe afterschool care possible for the kids and families who need it most.

The cost to attend this anniversary breakfast celebration is $15.00 per person.  To RSVP visit www.bgcmc.org and for more information call 831-394-5171.
