Walking on hot coals to help older people in Buckinghamshire

Age UK Buckinghamshire is organising the shortest sponsored walk in the world to raise money for local older people! But there is a catch - the walk is on hot coals!

DIDCOT, U.K. - Sept. 9, 2013 - PRLog -- The event is happening at Viney House, Aylesbury on Friday 20th September and the charity is looking for teams and individuals to take part. The fire walk is staged by professionals who will make sure that everyone taking part is completely safe. Before anyone walks on the hot embers, they will take part in a motivational 'fear busting' seminar to prepare them to make the walk unharmed.

Fundraising Manager Evelyn Daley says: "We are looking for courageous people to take part in this incredibly exciting and rewarding experience. As the name suggests - it's a bare foot walk over red-hot wood embers heated up to around 800 degrees.

"It's a great opportunity for people to come along with colleagues, friends or family and share an amazing experience together in the knowledge that at the same time they will be helping older and vulnerable people in the community. "

Registration costs £30 per person and those taking part are being asked to raise a minimum sponsorship of £100. This could pay, for instance, for Befriending visits to four older people for a month and help to alleviate loneliness and social isolation for older people living in Bucks.

Minimum age of 14 applies, 14-17 year olds will require parental consent. Registration fee is non-refundable.

For further information, registration and sponsor forms contact Evelyn Daley on 01296 431911 or email edaley@ageukbucks.org.uk

NOTES TO EDITORS: The oldest recorded fire walk occurred over 4,000 years ago in India when two Brahmin priests were competing to see who could walk furthest over hot coals. The victor's triumph was recorded in writing surviving to this day.
