IRVINE, Calif. - Sept. 20, 2013 - PRLog -- A new lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court yesterday alleges that El Sereno Elementary School teacher Armando Gonzalez sexually abused at least 15 children between 2007 and 2011. According to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), Gonzalez resigned this past week. The allegations come in the wake of prior reports of sexual abuse perpetrated on numerous young children at multiple LAUSD elementary school campuses.

Deysi Cortez, Director of Latino Client Services at The SenatorsRet. Firm, LLP, says that the El Sereno allegations “follow an all-too-familiar pattern of rampant sexual abuse on LAUSD campuses in largely poor, Latino areas.” The Senators Firm represent dozens of victims abused at LAUSD schools Miramonte, Telfair, and George de la Torre elementary schools. The firm has repeatedly called for transparency on the part of LAUSD to explain why Latino children appear to be disproportionately victimized.

LAUSD claims it has instituted new procedures since revelations of the mass abuse of students by former Miramonte Elementary teacher Mark Berndt surfaced over a year ago. The district also recently paid about $27 million to settle 1 group of pending Miramonte lawsuits. But, according to Senators Firm Partner Ron Labriola, the district has provided little information to the public in explanation of why the abuse at Miramonte and other campuses was not prevented or detected earlier.  “The district needs to do more than pay off victims,” said Labriola, who added that “parents can’t be assured that their kids are safe at LAUSD schools until the district acknowledges and explains the breakdowns in the system that led to these tragedies in the first place.”

Labriola said that his firm will be aggressively investigating the new allegations involving El Sereno Elementary.
