Cathleen Coppola CAP, MSW, better known by her friends, colleagues and clients as “Cat”, is a person who has much to offer anyone who is willing to listen. She combines both her personal and professional experiences, along with continuously searching for and acquiring new knowledge to give her clients a therapist that is understanding, empathetic, and educated on the newest evidenced-based practices.

If you talk to anyone who knows her, whether it be friends, colleagues, or even previous professors and students she went to school with, you will hear a common theme. Cat stands out in a crowd; she is a natural leader. Her passion for what she does and her energy draw people to her. Most people will even say she is “special”. When asking Cat to write something about herself, this is what she had to say:

“I absolutely love what I do, it’s not really a “job” to me. I’m very passionate about the helping field, whether it’s individuals suffering from substance abuse, trauma, depression, oppression, homelessness, or all of the above; I want to help and make a difference if I can.

I believe in the butterfly effect. When I was getting help for my own addiction, I was fortunate enough to have an amazing therapist who helped me begin to work through some very difficult issues that had affected my life since I was a child. I was miserable before I ever used a drug. One day I was walking down the hallway and it hit me…that day was the first time in my entire life (I was 32 yrs. old) that I had ever liked myself; even a little bit. I even sort of liked “life”. I decided at that moment that I wanted to become a therapist. if I could help just one person who had been as broken and hopeless as myself feel the way I did that day, the suffering I experienced would’ve been worth it…and here I am. By my therapist making such an impact on my life, I then changed and decided to help others. If I even make even a tiny impact in a few people’s lives, that impact will then impact people they encounter and so on, hence the “butterfly effect”. I believe that one person can make an impact in this world, and I would like to make a positive one.

I’m very empathetic, I don’t judge people, and I believe in meeting the client where the client is at. I believe in the strengths perspective, it’s not about pointing out what someone did wrong (they remind themselves all the time), it’s about drawing upon what they did right and building on those skills so they can become happier and healthier people.

I tend to think “outside the box”, which is sometimes frowned upon because I question old ways of thinking and am always looking for new perspectives and ideas. I believe that recovery is about so much more than not using. I believe that recovery is about continuously working on becoming a better person”.

Cathleen has a unique ability to “stand out” in anything she does. She possesses the ability to see situations and life from many different and unique perspectives. She is able to understand people and connect with them. These unique abilities cannot be learned; they are genuine and natural. Cathleen is an attribute to this profession. Whether you’re a professional, person suffering from addiction, in recovery, or just someone looking to gain knowledge, Cathleen has something to offer you.  Contact  Cathleen Coppola CAP, MSW at 954-826-4920 or 888-44-detox
