The Black Music Association & Academy of America (BMA) proudly presents the first ever "Atlanta Black Music Awards” at Center Stage Theater on Sunday, December 1, 2013. The Black Music Awards, more commonly referred to as “The BMA's” promises to be an extravagant night filled with many memorable moments. On this elegant evening, we will honor and celebrate Atlanta's past, present and future icons! This is an exciting time for the City of Atlanta to celebrate, acknowledge, respect, and remember the musical influences of black entertainers in all genres. Many of today's favorite performers have originated from or reside in the Atlanta area; sharing their talents and entertaining the world with their soulful melodies of R&B, Soul, Jazz, Gospel, Hip Hop, Blues, Pop and every genre. In addition to introducing the world to some of the hottest musical beats and dance moves we all love to groove to, Atlanta is known for its vibrant attractions, uprising stars, and massive number of African American successors. This year's nominees will be selected in the following categories: Entertainer of the Year, BMA Young Star Award, Artist on the Verge of Breaking, Best Male Soul Artist, Best Female Soul Artist, Best Male R&B Artist, Best Female R&B Artist, Best Male Pop/Alternate Music Artist, Best Female Pop/Alternate Music, Best Male Blues Artist, Best Female Blues Artist, Best Blues Band, Best Male Jazz Artist, Best Female Jazz Artist, Best Jazz Band, Top International Artist, Best Pop/Alternate Band, Best Male Gospel Artist, Best Female Gospel Artist, Top Gospel Choir, Best Rap/Hip Hop Male Artist, Best Rap/Hip Hop Group, and the list goes on. "Atlanta is a city of Stars; this is certain to be our biggest event thus far,” says Founder Dr. Rick Warren. “We are delighted to bring our awards gala to the City of Atlanta.” The BMA has hosted its awards gala in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Sacramento, Houston, Chicago, and Detroit. Past recipients and honorees of the Black Music Awards include but are not limited to legendary artists such as Chaka Khan, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, The Jackson's, and Earth, Wind & Fire. This year's honorees include Atlanta Icons' "The Tams" and we will also honor Black Music Hall of Fame recipient “Regina Belle”. BET/Def Jam Comedian “Pierre” will be the evening's host and Ms. Nickee of Diva Day International will run the Red Carpet.
