Walmart and Sam’s Club Support the 25th Anniversary of the Atlanta Football Classic

Walmart & Sam’s Club Collaborate with 100 Black Men of Atlanta in Honor of the Atlanta Football Classic 25th Anniversary Game and Project Success

ATLANTA - Oct. 9, 2013 - PRLog -- HBCU alumni, football lovers and college sport supporters arrived this past weekend to one of the largest football events in the southeast; the annual Atlanta Football Classic game, held at the Georgia Dome. In honor of the Classic’s 25th year anniversary, Walmart® and Sam's Club® collaborated with 100 Black Men of Atlanta to support the anniversary and ‘Project Success’, the organization’s flagship program dedicated to empowering African-American youth.

To rally excitement around the 2013 Atlanta Football Classic, Walmart and Sam’s Club held two kick-off rallies at their respective metro-Atlanta stores filled with interactive games, music, prizes and more. The first kick-off rally was held on September 27th at Sam’s Club Lithonia location, with a special autograph signing with famed Atlanta Falcons star Asante Samuels. Walmart’s kick-off was the following Friday, held at the brand new MLK Walmart location, right in the heart of the Atlanta Classic action. From the Washington High School marching band to the host dancing and performing on stilts, the Walmart kick-off rally provided a fun-filled day that built true excitement around the 25th anniversary game.

On Saturday during half-time, Walmart and Sam’s Club presented 100 Black Men of Atlanta and ‘Project Success’ a check for $50,000 to help better prepare the organization’s mentorees to successfully graduate from high school and prepare them for post-secondary education. Created in 1987, the mentoring program, led by members of the 100 Black Men of Atlanta and its auxiliary organizations, encourages urban youth to be self-motivated and confident while emphasizing the importance of a strong work ethic.

Notables in attendance included: Terrence J (E! News), Jacob Latimore (recording artist, ‘Black Nativity’ film), Ebony Steele (The Rickey Smiley Morning Show/ Fox Network’s DISH Nation), Peter Thomas (Real Housewives of Atlanta, author, restaurateur) and Candice “Dice” Dixon (LaLa’s Full Court Life).
