Based on a 1927 picture from the noted Jazz Age photographers Studio Walery, it captures an image from Baker’s famed ostrich feather dance as performed at the Folies Bergeres. Among other items up for sale are period endorsement ads, programs in the Art Deco style, sheet music, a bookstore promotional poster, a photo from her funeral featuring all 12 of her adopted children plus other period items. Born in the U.S., Baker’s triumphant Paris appearances launched a career that lasted several decades and established her as the pre-eminent black performer of her time.
