International Model Jourdan Dunn Named SCDAA Parent Ambassador

BALTIMORE - Oct. 23, 2013 - PRLog -- British fashion model Jourdan Dunn is the newest celebrity to join the fight against sickle cell disease. The international supermodel and 2008 British Model of the Year is now the parent ambassador for The Sickle Cell Disease Association of America, Inc. (SCDAA) Dunn hopes to bring international visibility to sickle cell disease through her platform as a global fashion icon.

Dunn rose to international prominence when she became the first black model to walk a Prada runway in over a decade. Her resume includes multiple Vogue covers and runway shows for Burberry, Yves Saint Laurent and other top designers. Dunn has overcome many challenges during her career, including racial discrimination and being a single mom to three year-old son, Riley, who suffers from sickle cell disease.

As SCDAA Parent Ambassador, Dunn hopes to inspire those affected by sickle cell disease to speak out about triumphs and struggles. She encourages parents to allow their children to be as active as possible and to develop trusting relationships with doctors. “Having the right healthcare professionals in your corner will make the toughest moments less daunting,” she says.
