Follow on Google News | ![]() First New TLDs Added to InternetIn 2012, ICANN accepted applications to create new Top Level Domains (TLDs). A TLD is the text to the right of the final dot in a domain name. The first new TLDs have been added to the Internet.
This week ICANN announced that the first four TLDs from the 2012 application round have been added to the Internet. From this point, each TLD will go through a 'ramp-up' phase during which the applicant gears up to sell domains within the new TLD to the public. The four new TLDs were added to the Root Zone on October 23, 2013.
