Follow on Google News | ![]() Winchester Industries Looks Back at 30 YearsThe company’s subsequent three decades of success in the industry was celebrated at an October 3rd luncheon at the factory with employees, families, friends, vendors and political representatives. Original owners, Robert Weis and George Yuhasz, recognized a need 30 years ago for energy-efficient windows. “And they filled that niche with a window they designed on their own and with exclusive dealers that provided sales and installations,” The company prides itself on being privately owned and has never used state money to keep afloat, Sugrue noted. “Despite the economic conditions, we’re debt-free, profitable and fiscally sound,” says Sugrue. Looking forward, Winchester recently installed a new glass washer that will ensure its glass is efficient and clean. “It’ Winchester makes a point to purchase glass only from American manufacturers in an effort to support local jobs. Most glass for the triple pane units is purchased from PPG Industries’ Carlisle plant. Glass packs are cut and assembled at Winchester’s location in Saltsburg, PA. Great pride is held in the fact that 70% of the employees at Winchester have tenure of 27-30 years with the company. Having spent five years as regional sales manager, seven years as general manager and 10 years as vice president before being promoted to president two years ago, Sugrue considers himself to be a newbie. “Our employees are good hardworking people, hence why the turnover is almost nonexistent,” Winchester manufactures the Bristol and Oxford lines of high-end replacement windows and doors. Over two million windows have been installed nationwide, as well as hundreds of thousands of steel and patio doors, via an exclusive nationwide network of dealers. A marketing philosophy that began 30 years continues to set the direction of the company. Products and sales territories are totally exclusive, which provides a niche to home improvement dealers that want to exit the price war battlefield within their markets. Looking ahead, Winchester is aggressively seeking new dealers in “open” markets so a product with such stamina and innovation can be offered to many more USA homeowners.
