Follow on Google News | First National Community Bank Pays for Good GradesLocal students earn $1 for every A or 90 on their report card
The locally-based community bank continues their well-received Simply Smart program by rewarding students with $1 for every A on their report card. “The program encourages good grades and promotes savings”, says Donna Czerw, Senior Vice President, Retail Banking Officer. To participate, students bring their report card to any FNCB location and the qualifying reward is deposited into their youth savings account. If they don’t have an account, it’s easy for parents to open one. “The program has been so successful that we see parents bringing their kids straight from school the day the report cards are issued. It’s great to see kids excited about good grades and saving money,” Czerw says. “And that working hard in school helps reach savings goals -- whether to buy a new video game, a bike or just save for college.” Each year the program grows. In two years, FNCB has paid for more than 7000 A’s— with even greater participation expected this year. “We’re amazed how word of the program has spread,” added Czerw. “Not only are the kids excited to share their accomplishments with friends and family, but so are our employees who can’t wait to congratulate each and every student.” Simply Smart is part of FNCB’s larger education efforts that include employee volunteers who teach financial literacy and money management skills in Luzerne, Lackawanna and Wayne county schools.
