Kennebrew has been a Detroit area homeless advocate since 2008, and offers candid insight in her memoir "Thank God for the Shelter." In this self-help book, Kennebrew shares her personal experience with homelessness and the process of learning to become self sufficient and then to thrive again. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for COTS Detroit and is the Chairman of the Human Services Committee. Versandra Kennebrew is very active with the Coalition on Temporary Shelter Speakers Bureau and is sought for her opinion and insight on hunger and homelessness at conferences and forums across the country.
