Follow on Google News | Primo Levi: The Matter of a Life – a Conversation December 11, 2013 6-8 pm JCC ManhattanJoin Berel Lang, author of the new biography of Primo Levi, published by Yale University Press, together with Jewish and Holocaust studies academics, Steven Zipperstein and Nancy Harrowitz discussing the life, work, and thought of the Primo Levi.
Nancy Harrowitz teaches Italian literature and Holocaust studies at Boston University. She has published widely on antisemitism and gender in the modern period, including Antisemitism, Misogyny and the Logic of Cultural Difference: Matilde Serao and Cesare Lombroso, an edited collection, Tainted Greatness: Antisemitism and Cultural Heroes. Her most recent work includes articles on Primo Levi, Giorgio Bassani, and Carlo Levi, and she is currently finishing a book entitled Primo Levi and the Identity of a Survivor. Steven J. Zipperstein is Koshland Professor in Jewish Culture and History at Stanford University. He has published widely and his award-winning books include Elusive Prophet: Ahad Ha'am and the Origins of Zionism, and Rosenfeld's Lives: Fame, Oblivion and the Furies of Writing. He is series editor, together with Anita Shapira Yale University of Leon D. Black Foundation's Jewish Lives which expects to publish 100 titles. Zipperstein is currently writing a cultural history of Russian Jewry at the turn of the 20th century, and will be the Kronhil senior scholar in residence at the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research this spring.
