“[A] tightly focused, profoundly clarifying biography… A defining and affecting tribute to a modern master. “—Booklist, Starred Review “Gripping… A Letter From the Author Paris, March 1st, 2015 Dear friends and colleagues: I am very pleased to be back in the US for the publication of Mark Rothko: Toward the Light in the Chapel by Yale UP. I will be traveling around the country to present the book in March, April and September 2015. I hope that I will have an opportunity to meet with you at one of the events listed below. Please feel free to pass this program along, should you think of someone who might be interested in attending. Four years ago, when I started writing the proposal, I did not think that we would find ourselves in such a social and political context as that of today, but I do believe that Rothko's trajectory touches on the global threats that worry us all and shows that the rejections in the life of an immigrant can be overcome and turned into an asset.
