Seniors turn to Yoga; Boomers turn on with Pilates at Auburn Yoga Studio

The energy, the instructors, the pace, and the joy grow in Auburn's community with new Yoga for Seniors, Pilates, and Ballet

AUBURN, Calif. - Nov. 6, 2013 - PRLog -- Often the expression get-up-and-go persuaded many seniors to sit home and linger. But Gwenn Jones, owner of Auburn Yoga & Fitness Studio, saw the opposite as locals flocked to her studio the second week of their new Tuesday morning Senior Yoga class. Jones says, "They are realizing being-active-to-stay-active is immediately rewarding, fun and non-bone-breaking," a surprising concept for some.

Jones recently added this senior yoga class at the urging of one instructor, Susan Hayes, a senior herself who has a sound comprehension of elders' yoga practice. The class is exclusively designed for seniors and they appear very receptive to the resultant healing and thriving of the human body. Jones adds, "We teach people of all ages at our studio, but this class really enables a genuine commonality due to the age-distinct focus. Our seniors use the wall, the floor, chairs and even light weights and the response is rather awe-inspiring." Hayes is specially trained to teach seniors and those with Osteoporosis.

Monday/Wednesday morning Pilates and Ballet classes have been growing at Auburn Yoga with instructor Cecelia Kay back on board. With an unbridled history of ballet, classic Pilates, kickboxing, and hip hop dance, Kay has the flair for an ideal balance of calm and strength. "Cecelia's Pilates instruction really shines because she spotlights building strength and length, but does not force a high-speed practice as many Pilates classes do," says Jones.

The addition of La Bou Bakery & Cafe next door has delivered Auburn's Victorian Village a healthful facelift. Fifty-percent off coupons are offered at La Bou through December 2013 for the new Senior's yoga class. Jones says, "This shimmering period tallies well with our 5th year anniversary...sort of like the close of a yoga session."
