Commonwealth Motors BUZZ - OFF for Kid's CancerAbout 300 folks joined into the fun yesterday as the Commonwealth Children's Cancer Buzz Off was held at Commonwealth Motors Lawrence for the first time.
“The concept is simple, raise some pledges and get you’re head buzzed,” said Tyler Reed, one of the organizers of the event at Commonwealth. “It turned out to be a great day. We had to have 300 people involved here and 100 or so heads got buzzed.” Area basketball players, who heard about the event, flocked to it, to help make it happen. Remember, it is Commonwealth Motors and owner Charles Daher, who stepped up for them, by taking a major sponsorship role in the area’s boys and girls Christmas tourneys. “Alot of teams were represented here today, and the whole Andover (boys) team got their heads shaved,” said Reed. “I’m not sure how much money we raised, but the number is going to be great. Mr. Daher said he would match up to the first $10,000. I think we’re going to be up over $15,000 when it’s all counted.” The event, which had raffles and fun all afternoon, was about community, as well. One of Commonwealth’ Children from Lawrence’s Parthum School right across the street raised an amazing $1,500 for the event on their own.
