By: California Maritime Leadership Symposium Each year the Symposium organizing committee recognizes an individual who has exemplified a strong commitment to California’s maritime transportation industry throughout the course of a distinguished career. Through her past work with the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, the Marine Exchange of Southern California, the Office of International Trade for the State of California and her continuing affiliation with the Propeller Club, Port of Los Angeles-Long Beach, the Harbor Association of Industry & Commerce and the Los Angeles Customs Brokers & Freight Forwarders Association, Monika Wegener’s career has positively impacted various sectors within the state’s maritime industry. Ms. Wegener was the first female member of the Propeller Club of Los Angeles-Long Beach, as well as the first female to be honored at the International Seafarers Center Industry Salute. “I am honored and humbled to follow in the footsteps of Gary Gregory, Dick Steinke and Captain Dick McKenna in receiving this award ” remarked Ms. Wegener. “And, it has always been my great pleasure to work in this industry.” As part of the Symposium’s annual tradition, Monika Wegener will be formally honored during a special reception held in the Capitol Building Rotunda on the first evening of the two-day conference among an audience of industry peers, including policy makers, port executives, maritime industry leaders and transportation planners. The Symposium has become one of the premier events focused on briefing Sacramento's policymakers on key matters related to the entire Maritime Transportation System. It is the only comprehensive forum for port executives, commissioners and other stakeholders across the state to seek resolution to the growing challenges the Maritime Transportation System faces.
