DENVER - Nov. 13, 2013 - PRLog -- The Denver Christkindl Market (http:www.DenverChristkindlMarket.com (http://www.denverchristkindlmarket.com/)) recently announced that Ms. Dana Kiel, was chosen as its 2013 Christkindl, or Christmas angel. Kiel is a sophomore at the University of Denver where she majors in International Studies with minors in Economics and Leadership Studies. She is also editor of DU’s “Pioneer Business Review” and a member of the DU British Parliamentary Debate Team. She spent her senior year of high school and in Germany and became fluent in German while participating in the Congress Bundestag Youth Exchange Program (www.usagermanyscholarship.org). She was chosen to be the 2013 Christkindl because of her affinity for all things German, her German language capability, engaging personality, community involvement and her demonstrated self-confidence.

Recently, Ms. Kiel called on Continental Deli (http://ww.continentalsausage.com/deli.shtml) as the Christkindl and visited with the patrons there. She also had something special to share with Christmas’ most important people, children.

A well-known figure at the Christkindlesmarkt in Nuremberg is the Christkind ("The Christ-child", pronounced /krist-kint/), the traditional Christmas gift-bringer in most regions of Germany, Austria and Switzerland as well as a number of other countries. The Christkindl is represented as a sprite or angel and at one of the oldest German Christmas markets in Nuerenberg a young lady is chosen each year to be the Christkindl and represent the market. The Denver market emulates that.

Kiel will represent the Denver Christkindl Market at several events and will appear in full festive attire on November 23 for the Gran Opening. Those interested should bring their cameras and be sure to get a photo of their family with the Christkindl after the Grand Opening Ceremony.

See the Christkindl in person during the official opening ceremony on Saturday, November 23, 2013, which begins at 4:30 p.m. The grand opening includes:

·       -   4pm-4:30pm – The Edelweiss Club Schuhplattler perform traditional Bavarian-style dancing

·      -   4:30pm – Opening comments from market’s General Manager, GACC President and the Prolog given by the Christkindl, Ms. Kiel.

·    - 5pm-7pm – The Denver Philharmonic Orchestra will perform Christmas music in various ensembles

·    - 7:30pm-9pm – Alpen Rose band plays German music until 9pm to close.

This year’s market again brings the sights, sounds and flavors of the holiday season with a German flair to the 16th Street Mall. Music, holiday lights and typical vendor cabins will dot Skyline Park area across from the Daniels & Fisher Clock Tower.

This festive German Christmas market continues through December 21 and takes place in Denver's Skyline Park on the 16th Street Mall with its busy pedestrian traffic and easy access by light rail, Mall Shuttle Bus, RTD or automobile; the Southwest Skating Rink is located just across the 16th Street Mall from the market.

The market’s normal hours are from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Sunday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday, with extended hours for the Parade of Lights on November 30 and December 1. On Thanksgiving Day the market will close at 4pm.
