National Black Marathoners Association to Hold 10th Annual Summit at the 2014 Windermere Marathon

SPOKANE, Wash. - Nov. 13, 2013 - PRLog -- Dallas, TX (November, 14, 2013) – The National Black Marathoners’ Association (NBMA) announced today its 10th Annual Summit will be held at the 2014 Windermere Marathon and Half Marathon during the May 31 weekend. The NBMA is the country’s oldest and largest not-for-profit organization that supports Black American 5K through ultramarathon distance runners. They have also provided over $10,000 in scholarships to deserving, college-bound high school boy and girl distance runners.

“We heard great things about this event and are looking forward to enjoying the courses and the city,” said NBMA’s Executive Director and 125-time marathoner, Tony Reed. “Many of our members are trying to complete marathons in all 50 States. This gives them an opportunity to scratch Washington off of their list.”

NBMA participants will be wearing red or lime green jerseys shirts and black shorts or pants to symbolize their membership during the race. The organization has members in 43 states and five countries.

Elaine Koga-Kennelly, Windermere’s Executive Race Director, says, “We’re looking forward to having the NBMA attend our event. Each finisher receives an attractive gender specific long sleeve micro-smooth tech Milano Race Shirt in a beautiful red color.

The US Marines will be presenting the "blinged out" shining and spinning “Flying Shoe” Finisher's Medal which was selected to be a candidate for the Annual 25 Best Medals in the Nation Contest in 2013 sponsored by Marathon and Beyond Magazine.

Also, the beautiful Ladies of the Spokane Lilac Festival Royal Court will be distributing the lovely long stemmed "lilac rose" to each finisher and a FREE Victory Stand Photo will be a gift to each finisher to memorialize their achievement. Moreover, each finisher will celebrate their accomplishment at the Post Race Party with hot food, beer garden and music.”

About the Windermere Marathon: The Windermere Marathon is a fund raising endeavor. Its featured beneficiary is the Windermere Foundation, a 501( c)(3) organization. It supports local assistance programs for low-income and homeless families, with focus on youth assistance and children-in-need. It does this by underwriting the costs of summer camps, funding literacy programs and providing basic necessities such as new school shoes, socks and underwear. The overarching belief is that building a child's self-esteem is an investment in our future.  The money, which is raised, goes to a Great Cause and stays right here, in our own neighborhood, to those who need our help the most. The Windermere website is www.WindermereMarathon.com.
