‘haskapa’ Haskap juice wins ‘Innovative Product of the Year’ award

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia - Nov. 27, 2013 - PRLog -- LaHave Forests is proud to announce that the recently released ‘haskapa’ Haskap Juice won ‘Innovative Product of the Year’ at the Taste of Nova Scotia Prestige Awards.  The judges were particularly impressed with the versatility of the Haskap drink, highlighting not just its characteristics as a delicious juice, but also its potential as a non-alcoholic wine substitute and a cocktail ingredient.

The Taste of Nova Scotia Prestige Awards honour producers and restaurants that provide exceptional culinary products and experiences. Winners were announced during the annual Tourism Industry Association of Nova Scotia’s (TIANS) Tourism Summit on November 26, 2013.

“Winning the World Juice award was a very special moment for us, but to be recognized by local customers and organizations through ‘Taste of Nova Scotia’ means something on a more personal level.” said Liam Tayler, Commercial Director of LaHave Forests. “The most gratifying moment at the awards ceremony, after the reception of the award itself, was that at the end of the meal there was not a single Haskap juice bottle left on the tables that had not been drained!”

Nominations for the Taste of Nova Scotia Prestige Awards were received from Taste of Nova Scotia members and the public. The nominations were brought to a judges’ panel and then approved by the Taste of Nova Scotia Board of Directors.

LaHave Forests launched the “haskapa” brand of Haskap products to encourage a Canada-based Haskap industry, and in addition to domestic clients has already met with potential export clients in both Europe and the United States.

The Haskap is a member of the honeysuckle family and is growing in popularity. Although the berry has been used Japan for generations, it is new to the North American market and deserves special note due to its health properties, taste, and versatility.
