British Actress Sofia Hayat assaulted on India's Celebrity Big Brother

Dec. 20, 2013 - PRLog -- Three days after British singer-actress Sofia Hayat filed a complaint against actor Armaan Kohli for allegedly assaulting her during their stay at a Lonavla-based bungalow while filming the reality show, Bigg Boss, the police on Monday arrested Kohli on charges of sexual harassment. Santa Cruz police station had initially booked Kohli for assault, the Lonavala city police added charges of sexual harassment against the actor, after watching the unedited clips of the show.

Vishnu Pawar, inspector, Lonaavla Police said, "we obtained the CCTV footage, and after watching it, we could verify Hayat's allegations. Kohli was then arrested on Monday night.

The Santacruz Police had booked Kohli under sections 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to outrage the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code.

The Lonavla Police further added IPC sections 294 (obscene acts and songs), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 354 a (sexual harassment) in the complaint against Kohli.

Hayat had accused Kohli of using words and gestures that outraged her modesty and of hitting her in the face with the end of a mop stick.

Sofia has said, "I am surprised, that despite the fact that the police have seen the footage and themselves have added 2 more charges against Mr Kohli, how he got bail? It is really' shocking, and difficult to digest that a man can hit a woman on television. He was charged with sexual offences, as well as abuse, and was still allowed back onto the show."

Sofia Hayat has world wide support, and has been trending on twitter for 3 days. The world is up in arms that this has been allowed to happen.

She further adds, "India is one of the fastest developing countries, and I am proud to be an Overseas Citizen of India, this is why I am shocked how this could happen in India, and how he was let out of jail so quickly. How has he been able to walk away free and enter the house again? I am truly disheartened. It proves this matter was not dealt with as seriously as it should have been.

The show itself is giving a bad example by showing viewers that a man who hit a woman is allowed back in the show. What sort of a message is this sending?

Kohli was arrested in 2008 for assaulting his girlfriends pictures circulated in the press of blood on the walls where he hit and threw her.

He was also alleged to throw another ex girlfriend out of a moving car, which was also reported in the indian press.

Sofia Hayat will be returning to the Uk soon, however is stuck in Mumbai dealing with her lawyers and the police.

"I am making a strong stand. What he did was wrong, and what the Tv channel are doing is wrong. How can any woman feel safe, if things like this are allowed to happen? In England, Kohli would have been arrested straight away and held in prison For a long time."
