This will be the first in a series of Monday days of action on various legislative and policy issues during the 2014 Georgia legislative session. William Barber · 4 – 6 pm RALLY Where: Rally: Workshop: Who: Sponsored by Moral Monday Georgia, a broad coalition of Georgia community and faith-based organizations and individuals calling for moral and responsible state government. Speakers will include: · Georgians directly affected by lack of access to Medicaid; · Rev. Timothy McDonald III, pastor, First Iconium Baptist Church; · Georgia State Senator Vincent Fort; · Francis Johnson, President, Georgia NAACP; · Other leaders of Georgia community and faith-based organizations, TBA; · North Carolina NAACP President Rev. William Barber Medicaid expansion would provide health care to more than 600,000 uninsured Georgians; prevent an estimated 3,600 deaths per year; prevent severe funding cuts to Grady Hospital and other hospitals throughout the state; and provide some 70,000 jobs, at no cost to Georgia taxpayers for the first three years.
