Lawmaker, Groups Call for an End to Police Militarization

WASHINGTON - Dec. 10, 2014 - PRLog -- As the protests and reports of over-militarized police response continue around the country in the wake of the Michael Brown and Eric Garner grand jury verdicts, groups join Congressman Hank Johnson in calling for an end to police militarization.

When: Wednesday (12/10) at noon ET.

Where: Reporters are asked to RSVP here https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1oN7bQgV0Mp-D-ot4XST39hFazSBworisPchrK23RKNY/viewform) to receive call in information.

Who: Congressman Henry C. “Hank” Johnson Jr. represents Georgia’s 4th Congressional district and has introduced legislation (H.R. 5478) to stop police militarization.

"According to public reports, approximately 12,000 police organizations across the country were able to procure nearly $500,000,000 worth of excess military merchandise including firearms, computers, helicopters, clothing, and other products, at no charge during fiscal year 2011 alone. Obviously the Pentagon has way too much money if they have this much excess equipment. Why is equipment designed for warfare appearing in our local communities", said Andrea Miller.
