PRLog -- A solo show of etchings and a group show of new hand-pulled prints will have openings Saturday January 11th, 2014 from 6:30 - 8:30 pm at Manhattan Graphics Center (http://www.manhattangraphicscenter.org/)
, are a nearly 30-year-old workshop, school and gallery devoted to the fine arts of hand pulled printmaking. In the tradition of the alternative artist collectives that once dotted SoHo, MGC rose from the ashes of the former Pratt Institute Print shop. When the shop was closed several teachers struck out on their own committed to offering an accessible workspace to continue to practice and instruct in their chosen techniques. With a move to Times Square three years ago, we remain a true community staffed by volunteers and for printmakers not just in New York, but worldwide. We have a comprehensive schedule of classes, art openings and artist talks throughout the year
MGC is entirely run by volunteers, yet classes and open studio time are amongst the most affordable in New York City, and where possible we provide scholarships. We run an art-in-public-
high schools program in which instructors bring a portable press and the art of printmaking to school underserved in arts instruction. The students are also invited to come work at MGC and show their work in conjunction with the Fashion Center BID found space initiative.
