He has spent years researching Northup, a free black man who was lured from his home in Saratoga Springs, New York, and sold into slavery before the Civil War. After being rescued years later, Northup wrote a book about his experiences. Northup's book is the basis for the 2013 film 12 Years a Slave, which has earned numerous major awards and nominations. Jane E. Wilcox, an author and genealogy researcher, hosts the Forget-Me-Not Hour on blogtalkradio. The program's tagline "Your Ancestors Want Their Stories to Be Told," suggests how genealogy research can help uncover family history mysteries. The show features interviews with special local, regional and national genealogy guests, a little music, and lots of genealogy tips.
