50 Years Ago: Filming in Ballston Spa of "The Way We Were"

BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. - Aug. 29, 2022 - PRLog -- In September 1972, Hollywood came to Ballston Spa when  a production crew took over Front Street to film some scenes for the movie "The Way We Were," which was set in the 1930s. Robert Redford and Barbra Streisand--and some local residents ("extras")--were here in person for the moviemaking. Learn about this event and the excitement it generated, as well as how it impacted the community and why Ballston Spa came to be a location used for the film. Local historian David Fiske (author of Ballston Spa History Walkaround) will talk about the time--50 years ago--that Hollywood came to town. After the talk, those who want to can walk up to Front Street to see and hear about the two locations that appeared on screen. Event is free and open to the public.

This event will take place on September 24, 2022, at 3 pm, at The Real McCoy Beer Company, located at 28 Washington Street in Ballston Spa,,New .York.

David Fiske is a retired librarian. In recent years he has researched and written numerous articles relating to the history of the village of Ballston Spa in Saratoga Country, New York. He has also been recognized for his written works about Solomon Northup, who was kidnapped from Saratoga Springs prior to the Civil War. Northup was sold into slavery in the South, but was rescued years later and wrote a book about his experiences. The Oscar-winning film 12 Years a Slave was based on that book.
