Davis Love III Awards Scholarships to Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County Teens

MONTEREY, Calif. - Jan. 23, 2014 - PRLog -- Pebble Beach, CA. January 23, 2014 – Davis Love III, long-time supporter of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County (BGCMC), will award financial scholarships to Club teens at a reception immediately following Golf for Kids tournament play at Monterey Peninsula Country Club (MPCC) on Monday, February 3rd. Golf for Kids is a Pro-Am tournament benefitting local youth. The scholarships are awarded to eligible Club teens through the Davis Love III Family Foundation.

Davis Love III states, "Over the years, it has been my honor to continue to support the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County through the Davis Love III Family Foundation and my long-time relationship with the Griggs Family. This very special partnership continues to bring educational opportunities and scholarships to teens that need it most."

Golf for Kids, now in its 26th year, is a joint effort with Monterey Peninsula Foundation (MPF) and the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. BGCMC has been a major recipient of grants from the MPF for 20 years, and has awarded over $1,760,000 over the years to support BGCMC’s nutrition program, a key component of the organization’s Healthy Living initiative.

Since the tournament’s inception, over $3.7 million has been raised through the support and generosity of touring PGA professionals and sponsors of Golf for Kids. Twenty-five percent of the tournament net proceeds are placed directly into the scholarship fund for Boys & Girls Club teens, and remaining funds support BGCMC's after-school and summer enrichment programs.  To date, thirty-two teens have been awarded the Davis Love III Scholarship.

The tournament includes a clinic hosted by Davis Love III at 11:30am, followed by a 12:30pm shotgun start on the Dunes and Shore courses of MPCC. The day culminates with a cocktail reception and Davis Love III Scholarship awards ceremony.

For 26 years, MPCC has hosted Golf for Kids for the BGCMC supporting the Club's mission to "Inspire and empower the youth of Monterey County to realize their full potential to become responsible, healthy, productive and successful citizens."
