DALLAS - Feb. 4, 2014 - PRLog -- One of the National Black Marathoners Association's (NBMA) goal is to provide information about Black American distance runners. We are pleased to announce that Gary Corbitt has been appointed to be our Historian. In this role, he's responsible for accumulating and providing information about these individuals and running clubs for the NBMA website and researchers.

Our objective is to become a repository for inspirational and educational information about Black American distance runners. This repository was recently launched with the NBMA’s Black Distance Runner Hall of Fame and Achievement Awards Banquet in Richmond, VA. Theodore "Ted" Corbitt, Marilyn Bevans, Frances Gilbert, Warren Elzy, Frederick F. Davis III, and Angela Ivory were inducted.

Tony Reed, NBMA's Executive Director says, "Gary has a wealth of information about American distance runners. He's well respected and known throughout the running community. Recently, he launched the website about his late father, Theodore "Ted" Corbitt, at www.TedCorbitt.com website. Our website and social media platforms will provide places for him to present his research. We're looking forward to his contributions."

Gary says, "I applaud the NBMA's position on running history preservation. One of my goals with the Ted Corbitt Archives is to create historical profiles of the many pioneers of long distance running."

The NBMA's 2014 USA Summit will be at the Windermere Marathon in Spokane, WA during the May 31 weekend. Our 2015 International Summit will at the Mt. Kilimanjaro Marathon on June 28, 2015.
