TIGARD, Ore. - Feb. 5, 2014 - PRLog -- Size matters: tall players serve harder and have greater reach, while shorter players are quicker. The question is, does it matter enough? Do taller tennis players win more?

Using data from the 2014 Austrailian Open, VolleyCam compared every competitor across each of the 252 matches played to determine if there was any kind of trend.

The first round favored the taller players somewhat, with the men's side coming in at 58%, while women were more evenly matched at 53%.

The second round favored the shorter players on the men's side, giving them winning percentages of 43% compared to the shorter players' 37%, while the women were completely even at 43% each (note that matches where both competitors were of equal height accounts for the missing percentage).

Round three continued this trend, with shorter men dominating and women again coming in completely even.

Taller men began winning most of the matches in the fourth round, while women saw a shift in favor of the shorter players.

Both the quarter- and semifinals were mostly won by shorter players, and the final round was won by a short and tall player respectively.

Ultimately it was concluded that there was no correlation between height and success. The percentages were often very close, but even when they were not it swung both ways. You can check out the complete analysis here:
