The Beaufort International Film Festival Will Present 28 Independent Films From Around the World

Feb. 14, 2014 - PRLog -- The Annual Beaufort International Film Festival began on Feb.12 and ends on Feb.16, and boasts 28 independent motion pictures from a worldwide contingent of filmmakers. This year, the festival honors Academy Award winner Arthur Schmidt with the Jean Ribaut Award for Excellence in Film Editing. The festival, now in its 8th year, features an opening night reception, moderated discussions, and exceptional movies. The festival kicked off with the Filmmakers Opening Night Reception at Old Bay Marketplace Rooftop on Feb. 12. Infiniti of Hilton Head handed out souvenir popcorn cups at the reception. Filmgoers who have a souvenir cup will be able to get popcorn refills for $1 at all of the screenings.

Showing of the competing films began on Feb. 13 and will continue through Saturday, Feb. 15. All screenings take place in the Center for the Arts at University of South Carolina, Beaufort. The Awards Ceremony will commence the evening of Saturday, Feb.15, beginning with a cocktail hour starting at 7 p.m. to be followed by the awards presentation at 8 p.m.

Arthur Schmidt has won 2 Academy Awards in recognition of his film editing on Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) and Forrest Gump (1994). Following the screening of Forrest Gump on Friday, Feb. 14, Mr. Schmidt will take part in a panel discussion of the film.

Also being recognized by the festival will be Art Director James Passanante, who will receive the Behind the Scenes award for Scenic Design.

Tickets to individual films are $8 per person, and unlimited film passes are available for $115 for Beaufort Film Society members, and $225 for non-members. Those interested can purchase tickets online (http://www.eventbrite.com/e/beaufort-international-film-f...).
