Houston's Pastry of Dreams Launches Kickstarter Campaign

HOUSTON - Feb. 24, 2014 - PRLog -- Elizabeth and Sebastien Laval have launched a Kickstarter campaign for their Pastry of Dreams, bringing their authentic Parisian delectables to Houston.


They met in classic love story fashion. Elizabeth was an Aggie on vacation
 in Paris. Sebastien was a restaurant manager in Paris. Apparently Paris is
the most romantic city in the world, because it was love at first sight. After several months of a long distance relationship, they
 married.


Settling in Elizabeth's native Houston, Sebastien missed his French
 pastries. They scoured the city on an unsuccessful hunt for one that
 would pass his test. Elizabeth took her passion for baking to new levels and set 
out to perfect macarons. It took six months of
 trial and error to come up with a secret recipe that worked, but work it
 did.



They moved back to France to perfect their craft in top-flight French 
kitchens, beating out a 2 Michelin starred chef for best macaron at Hotel
 Cloitre Saint Louis. They moved back to Houston and perfected their formula using only the best ingredients: cage free eggs, Valrhona chocolate, Texas milk, organic produce. Elizabeth says, "Eating a pastry should not be about how much sugar, butter or extracts are inside but about how one bite of simple indulgence keeps you dreaming of more."



They have been taking the Houston macaron world by storm. A macaron created
 in their home patisserie, The Pastry of Dreams, won Best in Show at 2013's Le Grand Concours Macaron held by the Texan-French Alliance for the Arts. Pastry of Dreams' delicacies are in high demand in several circles including the French Consulate and La Colombe D'or.



The Laval's success hit a roadblock; they simply cannot meet all of their orders out of their apartment kitchen. Cottage laws forbid shipping or even selling online. 


Their solution is their own patisserie modeled after classic Parisian shops, something Houston does not yet have. It requires some equipment standard kitchens lack, such as special counter surfaces for tempering chocolate.

To assist with funding their project, they started a Kickstarter campaign.


Kickstarter allows backers to pledge money toward a given project. If the creators meet their goal, they get the money and backers get perks from them. A mere $25 pledge gets a half dozen of Pastry of Dreams' delectable macarons. The larger the pledge, the more delicious the swag.
