The festival will take place from May 11 through the 17th, festival organizers are now finalizing details, which we will make available as they are announced. Pizza Me, Mafia stars well known Brazilian comedian Tom Cavalcante, best known in Brazil for his television comedy work. Tom has recently moved to Los Angeles with his family to further promote his film work. Pizza Me, Mafia revolves around a Mafia family running a fake pizzeria business whose prodigal son Joe Calzone falls in love with the chief of police's daughter. When Joe intends to propose to her at a party, he brings his aide along, and the two mafiosos suddenly find themselves surrounded by cops. Their ruse becomes jeopardized as Joe begins to reveal too much during his drinking . . . now it's up to the family to save the day! Pizza Me, Mafia also includes a performance by Joe Stevens, best known for his portrayal of the Cross-Examining Lawyer in True Grit, and his numerous performances as Kent Chilobeck in the Justified tv series. On Pizza Me, Mafia, Gui notes: “Pizza Me, Mafia was created based on my passion for gangster movies. Mixing the genre with comedy was a fun task. I was careful not to turn the entire movie onto something cheesy, instead I was true to the gangster essence, and added the comedy through the talent of Tom Cavalcante.” Gui’s interest in films began before he even reached his first birthday, when he sat spellbound watching Sylvester Stallone in the entire Rocky 4! Originally from Brazil, Gui began making films at age four, came to the US permanently to study film at age seventeen, then graduated from the Los Angeles Film School in 2010, and the Art Institute of California in 2012. Gui Pereira also directed The Adventures of Sheriff Kid McLain, which he shot at the iconic Melody Ranch Studios -- once owned by singing cowboy Gene Autry. Melody Ranch Studios is most recently known for being the shooting location of the Academy Award Winning Django Unchained. The Adventures of Sheriff Kid McLain is currently on the festival circuit, and recently won the Best Action Short Film award from the 2013 International Student Film Festival Hollywood. Guy Pereira also recently won the Best International Filmmaker award from the Boston International Kids Film Festival. Director Gui Pereira is available for interview by appointment, pending availability. More detailed information: End
