Throughout its 10 year history FAME has conducted tributes to celebrated musicians including Luciano Pavarotti, James Brown, Luther Vandross, Chuck Brown and activities featuring celebrities such as Pieces of a Dream, Tulani (Rashida) Jolley, Jerry Butler, 76 Degrees West Band,Ski Johnson, The Richard Payne Trio. The Foundation has partnered with professional athletic teams, public schools, government officials, media outlets, theatres and dance companies. The organization has furnished public schools and youth with music programs with new & used instruments. It also sponsors –two intense summer music technology camps that includes music, technology and academic programs, giving students access to the finest college music professors, instructors, musicians and technology in the music business. The camps are in partnership with the University of Maryland School of Music & Bowie State University Fine and Performing Arts Center, Musician Tulani (Rashida) Jolley was at Wise Senior High School on Thursday, March 25 where she spoke to students about the importance of music, what it takes to be successful in music and in life. On April 16th the 76 West Band and “Plunk and Oneness” helped celebate its 10th anniversary at the Bethesda Jazz & Supper Club. UPCOMING “FAME” EVENTS INCLUDE: Saturday, April 19, 2014 11a.m. – 4 p.m. Tots to Teens Expo Walter E. Washington Convention Center 801 Mt. Vernon Place Washington, D.C. 20001 The Expo will feature a Healthy Living Stage, where kids and parents can learn healthy cooking alternatives. A Fitness Stage, that will allow kids to learn easy ways to stay fit, including Yoga & Zumba. FAME Executive Director is managing the Sponsor and Education Stage for speakers, music and theatrical performances. The Expo also includes over 3,000 square feet of inflatables, basketball, tennis, golf, bumper cars, over 140 vendors, a Readers Lounge and so much more. FAME featured musicians include TRIBE, INC, and Johnny Stricklett. The event is designed to build relationships between youth and families of Cheltenham, and resources within the community. The programs are designed to prepare rising 8th through 12th graders for successful futures by fostering the development of proficiency in computer technology, increased proficiency in music, including voice lessons, critical thinking skills, and academic enrichment.
