Technology company’s CEO receives Royal Recognition

April 22, 2014 - PRLog -- CEO of “What’s your Postcode?” company, Postcode Anywhere, Guy Mucklow is delighted to receive the Queen’s Award for Enterprise Promotion 2014.

The award is a lifetime honour and it has been conferred upon him by Her Majesty The Queen for his voluntary work in promoting enterprise in Worcestershire and beyond.

Guy set up Postcode Anywhere over a decade ago with co-founder and Technical Director Jamie Turner. The company has shown considerable organic growth providing its internet based services to over 8,000 organisations worldwide.

As someone who is firmly committed to the idea that SMEs are the backbone of the UK’s economy. Guy has used his experience and contacts to help encourage the younger generation to consider setting up and developing their own businesses, by supporting organisations such as Young Enterprise.

More recently he has become involved in Code Club a ‘not-for-profit’ network of volunteer-led after school coding clubs aimed at giving 7 – 11 year olds the chance to learn how to code.

Commented Guy:  “For children to have a chance of becoming creators not just consumers, of tomorrow’s innovations, it will be critical to expand computer science education that inspires children from an early age.  Code Club is an amazing initiative in this respect as it not only helps to solve the digital skills gap which is vital for the future success of the UK economy, it also helps those people that have benefitted from a digital education to share their passion, knowledge and skills with others.”

Solving technology skills shortages and encouraging entrepreneurialism are also major initiatives of the Information Economy Council, which Guy sits on and which helps to shape the Government’s strategy for the UK digital economy.

As part of its activities in the community, Postcode Anywhere also regularly hosts events in its offices to show local school children what life working in a technology company is like.  He has also helped to influence local and national business leaders to encourage disadvantaged young people to be given a chance, as with the right support, guidance and nurturing they too have the potential to become tomorrow’s successful entrepreneurs.

Only a handful of individuals are usually awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise Promotion every year as, for example, eight people in the country received it in 2013.

Guy continued:“ It’s a real honour and a privilege to have been selected for a Queen’s Award.  I guess that I’m passionate about what I do and I love passing some of that enthusiasm onto others.  Passion and interest, in my view, are essential ingredients for a happy and fulfilling life, so if you can find something that you love doing you will be successful.  Being rewarded in the process is, for me, is like the cherry on the cake!”
