Follow on Google News | Worldbuilding inspired by medieval history and fantasy classics in the Grand Arena of SerndallThe Grand Arena of Serndall offers players an original fantasy world inspired by medieval history and fantasy classics.
The game takes place in the city of Serndall, a pivotal trade city on the continent of Valgaard populated by various traditional fantasy races: dwarves, elves, humans, orks and the ominous Serns. Much of the game universe and mythology was inspired by the fantasy worlds of Joel Rosenberg's Guardians of the Flame series and Glen Cook's Black Company novels, as well as mythology, imagery and culture from Welsh, Nordic, and Turkish medieval history and legends. The influence for each race is loosely modeled after medieval history of the associated culture. The northern wooded reaches of Hythalion, the elvish kingdom, has naming and cultural conventions similar to ancient Welsh. The Serns, historically brutal and dominant in Valgaard, overlords of the city of Serndall, parallel Norse and Viking legends and society. The ork tribes of the mountainous region of Emberak have quickly changing, and questionable intra-dynastic loyalty to the current controlling tribe, similar to factional politics of the early Ottoman Empire, pre-dating modern Turkey. Drawing from historically recognized cultures and even events in designing the world of the Grand Arena of Serndall has helped Barbed Arrow develop a unique and rich universe woven together to immerse and invest players in creating their own mark on Valgaard’s history. Barbed Arrow, Inc. is the developer and publisher of Grand Arena of Serndall, scheduled for release in mid-2014.
