April 28, 2014 - PRLog -- The Second Annual “B-Ball of the South” Coaches vs. Cancer event is scheduled to take place Friday, May 2 at Colonial Life Arena in Columbia. The fundraising event, sponsored by Land Rover Columbia (http://www.landrovercolumbia.com/our-history/), will be a Kentucky Derby style ball. The fun starts at 7 p.m. and will feature hors-d'oeuvres, dancing, and a live auction with individual tickets costing $100, reserved tables for $1,000, and sponsored tables for $2,500. Proceeds will support the Coaches vs. Cancer program.

A nationwide collaboration between the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the American Cancer Society, the Coaches vs. Cancer program brings college coaches, their teams, and their communities together to raise awareness and provide important community outreach in the ongoing fight against cancer. Founded in 1993, Coaches vs. Cancer has raised over $80 million to date through their fundraising efforts in support of the vital work being done by the American Cancer Society.

As folks throughout the Lowcountry know, the American Cancer Society is the largest private not-for-profit investor in cancer research in the U.S. For 101 years now they have provided support for those confronted by cancer, and have fought for access to health care, advocated clean air initiatives, promoted life-saving cancer screenings, and much more. Currently their global volunteer force numbers at over 3 million, and through their efforts they have directly contributed to a decline in cancer death rates of 20 percent since 1991 in the United States.

Frank Martin, head coach for the University of South Carolina’s men’s basketball team, along with his wife Anya, will be chairing the Second Annual “B-Ball of the South” event.  There are only a limited number of tickets available, so those who would like to attend should get their tickets sooner rather than later. Ticket reservations are available from the American Cancer Society and can be purchased via email (mailto:carey.fissel@cancer.org) or by calling 704-553-5361.

The Second Annual “B-Ball of the South” promises to be a most festive event and one that should not be missed. Presenting sponsor Land Rover Columbia encourages their friends throughout the Lowcountry to join in the fun while showing their support for Coaches vs. Cancer and the American Cancer Society.
