Shame on "Good Morning America"!

Good Morning America scheduled filmmaker Lindsey Averill to discuss her upcoming film Fattitude. Is GMA’s cancellation of her appearance because of violent threats against Lindsey a sign of cowardice? Not part of solution = part of the problem.

FOSTER CITY, Calif. - May 4, 2014 - PRLog -- Foster City, CA - Because the threats against filmmaker Lindsey Averill “were so violently offensive, that we were unable to air them on morning television”, the Good Morning America show has cancelled Lindsey’s appearance.  Is this an indication of cowardice or of fat bias?

Cyberbullying is real, violent, and one of the worse forms of cowardice.  It is a growing problem worldwide and one that needs to be exposed.  The fact that Good Morning America refuses to shine a light on this egregious situation leaves one to wonder if they are simply cowards or part of the problem!  How is this story inappropriate for daytime television?  Children are aware of cyberbullying because they are most often the victims.  It is time for the media to take a stand and become part of the solution otherwise they are part of the problem!  END BULLYING NOW!

Lindsey knew when she launched her 45-day “Kickstarter” fundraiser for her upcoming film Fattitude that there would likely be trolls objecting to her project, but she had no idea that she would receive death threats.  Lindsey’s goal was to show that the relationship between eating and fat isn’t as linear as people think, and to highlight how common fat discrimination really is in today’s society.

Averill received calls threating death and rape.  Pizzas were sent to her home to prove her harassers know where she lives.  Her family members were contacted at their homes and at work.  Financial backers and film participants are being harassed by the fat hating bullies.

Lindsey was scheduled to appear on Good Morning America to discuss her film and her experiences.  When the producers investigated Lindsey’s story, they decided to cancel her appearance because of the violent threats from those who are bullying and harassing the filmmaker.

If Good Morning America believes this story is too violent for morning television, GMA needs to wake up and smell the coffee.  Cyberbullying is real and we need to all work together to END BULLYING NOW!
